Synopsis

La Famille Jolineau en vacances is a fun bilingual story book for children starting to learn French in primary school, aged six years and over. With this book, children will enjoy their French story time in the classroom or at home.

Children are naturally curious. The book aims to encourage and feed that curiosity. It introduces children to all aspects of learning French. Children are invited to take an active part in reading the story but will develop their listening skills when somebody else is reading to them. They will practise their speaking. On each page a ladybird asks them a question about what they have just read. Writing is encouraged through games and activities. Finally, children will have a taste for French culture when discovering the ‘goûter’.

The range of vocabulary and complexity of the sentences gradually build up so that children can steadily develop their curiosity and confidence. The colourful, eye-catching illustrations create a relaxed environment making the learning experience even more enjoyable.

In a nutshell, a lot of learning without feeling the effort involved !

The book has been written in light of government guidance about teaching modern foreign languages at primary school level.
