The gift of languages this Christmas: a great idea for primary school children

From my own experience as a French teacher, I can safely say that stories and storybooks are an ideal and fun way to engage children and ignite their interest and enthusiasm about learning languages. So why not adding a French or Spanish book to your Christmas list. This would be one of the best educational and enjoyable presents you could offer children around you. Apart from my own, I would highly recommend the collection of books by Gwen Brookes about an entertaining little witch called Berthe whose adventures never leave children indifferent! (See Bonjourberthe.co.uk or Cartescochons.com). Another suggestion is ” Va t-en Grand Monstre Vert”, by Ed Emberley, an amazing book that will teach colours and parts of the face in such a fun way! The collection ” I can read French” from B Small Publishing is a great source of bilingual short and original stories, one of my favourite being ” Je suis trop gros” about an elephant who wants to be a giraffe and vice-versa!
